Chapter 4: A Shattered Morning

Authors POV:

A year had passed, and Meera had successfully completed her degree. The weight of her final exams had lifted, but another burden had taken its place—the search for a stable job. Though she had sent out numerous applications, responses were slow to come, and she found herself still waiting for an opportunity that aligned with her passion for teaching.

In the meantime, she continued working part-time to support herself and her mother. Her love for children had led her to take up jobs as a nanny, caring for little ones while their parents were at work. It wasn't the career she had envisioned, but she found solace in the innocence of children and the joy of nurturing them. Every day was a new experience, filled with laughter, storytelling, and the comfort of knowing she was making a small difference in their lives.

One morning, after having a quiet breakfast with her mother, Meera prepared for another round of job interviews. She returned to her room, meticulously ironing her outfit and gathering her documents. Just as she was about to leave, a sudden, loud noise echoed through the house, shattering the peaceful morning. Her heart clenched with fear as she rushed toward the source of the sound.

To her horror, she found her mother lying at the bottom of the staircase, motionless. Panic surged through her veins as she dropped everything and rushed to her mother's side.

"Ma!" she screamed, shaking her gently, her voice filled with desperation. Her mother groaned weakly, pain etched across her face.

Without wasting another second, Meera's frantic cries for help alerted the neighbors and passersby. Within moments, a few kind souls rushed in, offering their assistance. Together, they carefully lifted her mother and carried her to the local hospital nearby.

As Meera sat in the ambulance, holding her mother's cold, trembling hand, fear gripped her heart. Her mother had always been her pillar of strength, and now, seeing her in such a vulnerable state was unbearable. She silently prayed, hoping that this was just a passing mishap and not something more serious.

Fate had thrown yet another test her way, and Meera knew that she had no choice but to face it head-on. Little did she realize that this moment would change the course of her life in ways she had never imagined.
